a Resilient Community
It’s Time To Remember!
Aloha & Greetings,
Welcome to the National Disaster & Community Resilience Project (NDCRP)! I’m so glad you could stop by. After getting acquainted with who we are and why, please consider joining our newsletter so that you can stay abreast of updates, breaking news, and resources you might find helpful to better plan for a disaster. Our newsletter will not clog your inbox with random one-off emails; the goal will be every other month.
NDCRP has been created to continue the momentum originally started at Anaina Hou Community Park and the effort to develop the Kauai Resilience Center. The goal for building out NDCRP is to educate, facilitate, and ultimately provide Kauai, the state, and beyond with public disaster shelters, options for private shelters, to develop and train a workforce able to respond to what will become a growing demand (and provide local young people, women, veterans, or others with the training and opportunity for a lucrative career path).
The beauty of dedicated disaster shelters from Monolithic Domes is that while the construction is done in such a way that withstands up to 290mp winds and flying debris, as well as being Class A Fireproof during gray skies and shelter people from these events, the rest of the time they can be schools, community centers, businesses, places of worship, museums, etc.
If you supported the need for actual real disaster shelters on Kauai or in the state as a whole, as introduced by the Kauai Resilience Center, ones that meet the devastation that climate change-fueled hurricanes or wildfires are currently threatening the entire nation with…please stay with us. Follow us, share your time, talent, or expertise, keep abreast through our newsletter, etc.
Lastly, please share your thoughts with us, your concerns, fears, ideas, or anything else you think would benefit this movement of saving lives.
With gratitude, determination, and respect…

President & CEO
SO WHAT HAPPENED TO THE KAUAI RESILIENCE CENTER?
The concept of KRC was born of many conversations with community leaders, first responders, staff, and the board during COVID-19, stemming from the desire for Anaina Hou Community Park to do more, and address some of the larger challenges facing our island. Collectively, it was identified that these areas were public health and safety and education/vocational training.
Monolithic Domes were the building of choice, and within these unique structures, disaster sheltering from wind events (up to Category 5 hurricanes) and wildfires (Class A Fireproof) would save lives. The price tag of this major capital campaign was roughly 20 Million. It would encompass three two-story Monolithic Domes, one targeted as a fire station to provide better coverage and response to the North Shore, and two domes dedicated to vocational training in the STTEM-based industries (extra T representing Trades). Most importantly, these domes would have saved roughly 1000 – 1,500 lives in a catastrophic wind or fire event.
Sadly, the organization determined that it no longer wished to pursue this focus due to the burden of expenses associated with it, instead returning to the focus of entertainment.
